Little Treasures – PNC

I hear it time and time again at how Northwest Indiana isn’t a desirable region to see good art. I will be honest, for a fairly long time I also thought this and would make the trip into Chicago to visit their galleries and museums. Yes, there is nothing quite like the big cities, but I have to admit that my perception is rapidly changing.

Believe it or not, Northwest Indiana is full of more then just corn fields. We have our diamonds in the rough and with a little bit of research, you can find some fantastic art collections. Like I did!

One such treasure is the collection at Purdue University North Central in Westville, IN (about 60 miles outside Chicago.) This collection is comprised of sculpture, works on paper, installations and paintings from such names as George Sugarman and exhibitions by artists like Preston Jackson. Every nook and crannie, of this campus, has little pop up treasures of contemporary art. It is a visual fiest for any art appreciator.

The artwork is easily accessible, but I suggest the guided tour by Judy Jacobi – Assistant Vice Chancellor of Marketing & Community Relations.  She is such a delight to be around and her energy for the arts is beyond infectious (plus, any visiting artist gets a free lunch – BONUS!)

For more information about the arts at PNC or to schedule a tour contact: Liz Bernel @ 219.785.5719

Happy Viewing!
